Southside YMCA
2010 Priceless Gifts Campaign
Since 1855 the YMCA of Coastal Georgia has been a leader in the Coastal Empire by building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities. We stand by our mission of putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Throughout our history, we have always honored our promise to furnish financial assistance to those who cannot afford program or membership fees.
Our Priceless Gifts Annual Fund Campaign allows us the unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of individuals, children and families in the communities we serve.

Below is a MY Y story about the power and strength of the Southside YMCA and it’s programs, memberships, and mission at work in the community of Savannah
The YMCA of the Coastal Empire and it’s branches are jewels in the Savannah crown, and the Southside Branch is one of the most valuable and brightest of those gems. This is due to the outgoing and competent staff; and, the friendly Christian environment fostered by both the staff and the members.
Currently, I have been working with one of the trainers for 18 months and have participated in spin and step classes. It has made a difference in my life! They are encouraging, and have such positive attitudes that their classes are always filled to capacity. Getting to know the members has been one of the joys. I look forward to seeing the young moms who come to work out. They inspire and encourage me to continue working towards my goal.
My recent activity has taken place since I retired but my experience goes back years. My commitment to the YMCA was cemented while I was serving as Training Chair for the United Way Campaign. Part of the training included having a speaker from one of the agencies that was served by the United Way. The speaker was from Safe Shelter and she asked for donations of towels and bathing suits for two small boys at the shelter. The YMCA had agreed to give scholarships to these children but they needed the towels and suits for summer camp. I was impressed that the YMCA would work across agency lines to make this happen. But, I cried when the speaker told the story of this experience at the follow up training session. She told us that when the children returned, they asked them if they had a good time. The younger child had not spoken a word in the 5 weeks he had been at the shelter. His first words were “real fun”. The other child said that “this has been the best day of my life.”
It has been about 20 years since I heard that story but I will never forget it. It taught me that the gift of the scholarships for these children helped them to understand that life can be happy and all right. I am sure that they will never forget the experience.
I could tell you other stories that demonstrate that the YMCA lives up to its mission “to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, body and mind for all.
Join the YMCA. It will make a difference in your life and the life of your family as well.
