Funds Raised wil help residents of the Coastal Empire learn, grow, and thrive

Every day, the YMCA of Coastal Georgia serves as a gathering place for the community. Kids pour in after school to play and do homework. Seniors meet for luncheons, group activities and to connect with one another. Teens gather for programs such as Teen Achievers and learn valuable career and college readiness skills. Adults come to a place where they have the time to focus on their personal wellness and health.

YMCA of Coastal Georgia Receives Grants From YMCA of the USA to Expand Early Childhood and Afterschool Programs For Local Hispanic and Latino Families

[SAVANNAH, January 13, 2012] – YMCA of the USA (Y-USA), the resource office for the nation’s 2,700 YMCAs, has awarded the YMCA of Coastal Georgia two grants totaling $350,000 to expand its afterschool programs for Hispanic and Latino families residing in the Greater Savannah community. The grants will also help the Y further develop its early learning readiness model to better support Hispanic family members, friends, and neighbors who serve as informal caregivers of young children.

Run one, Run them all

The Critz Tybee Run Fest is fast approaching and as one of the event sponsors, the YMCA wants to make sure you’re ready. Whether you would like to participate in a race or volunteer, we encourage you to join in this fun community event. The run fest consists of 5 races each race featuring a different distance, you can choose to run one or run them all. The event kicks off Friday February 3^rd at 6 pm with the 5K and Kiddie Run and continues Saturday morning with a 10K, ½ marathon, 2.8 Mile Beach Run, and the YMCA’s 1 Mile Fun Run.

Angel Tree

This year the entire YMCA of Coastal of Georgia association participated in Angel Tree, a program intended to provide a more cheerful Christmas to deserving individuals. Whether it was gift given to a child, or an entire Christmas complete with the holiday feast donated to a family, the Angel Tree at our YMCAs has proven to be a symbol of giving during the holiday season.

When Tami Breazeale, 38, was diagnosed with prediabetes in January, she knew she had to take action because she has witnessed the high price of uncontrolled diabetes, (a friend's lower leg was amputated after complications from the disease)."I want to be healthy for my kids. I also don't want to spend money on diabetes supplies in 10 years when I can spend less on a personal trainer now” (2011, USA Today).
