YMCA OF COASTAL GEORGIA TEEN ACHIEVERS

Founded in 1971 in Harlem, the Black Achievers partnered with Corporate America to ensure funding for Harlem YMCA youth programs; and at the same time created a public forum honoring African American corporate executives who paved the way and served as role models for youth.

The Teen Achievers Program was established in Coastal Georgia in 2001. Today, the Teen Achievers Program has become inclusive of all teens regardless of race, and has formed many partnerships that mentor and continue to inspire thousands of teens across the nation by providing them with the tools needed to succeed.

The YMCA of Coastal Georgia Teen Achievers is a multi-cultural program that prepares youth for college readiness/career development designed to motivate teens toward high school graduation, college access, and to prepare them for successful entry into the workforce. The Teen Achievers meet for career clusters twice a month on Saturday’s focusing on areas such as;

·    Arts and Entertainment
·    Business
·    Communication
·    Law– Military- and- Government
·    Health and Medical.

While preparing the participants for college readiness/workforce development, the teen achievers program build character, develop positive self esteem, and foster future leadership skills. Community service projects and fundraising activities is required by all participating teen achievers. The Teen Achievers is a nine month program that runs throughout the school year and targets youth between the ages of 13- 18 years old. This program relies on volunteer mentors, guest speakers, community leaders and sponsors to accomplish its mission of changing the lives of youth in the local community. The program currently serves teens in Chatham, Liberty, Bryan, and Pembroke Counties.
