Competitive Team Gymnastics
The competitive program is a year round program that focuses on quality competitive training, friendship, good sportsmanship, dedication and fun. Girls on our team begin competing at level 2 and continue competing through level 10. The boy's team consists of preteam through level 4. The team program competes in AAU, USAG and YMCA leagues. Competitions are primarily in the southeastern states, but we do compete nationally. All team athletes are coached by certified USAG professional members. - The Islands YMCA gymnastics team has had several state, regional and national champions at all competitive levels.
- The gymnastics department is proud of our numerous gymnasts that have continued their gymnastics careers in college.
- The YMCA of Coastal GA, Inc. has been the proud host of the 1995, 1999 and 2003 YMCA National Gymnastics Championships.
- We are proud of our athletes that have had a Letter of Proclamation presented in their name by the House of Representatives.
- The Islands YMCA was awarded the OASIS (Outstanding Achievements Sports in Savannah) award by the Greater Savannah Sports Council.
- The Islands team had 24 athletes represent our girl's team in the 2011 YMCA National Gymnastics Championship and Festival in Toledo, Ohio. Ranging from USAG level 3 - 7, we proudly brought home a total of 102 medals (26 gold, 16 silver & 60 bronze). There were over 1,600 athletes competing from throughout the United States.
- The Islands team is a proud recipient of the "2011 Generation Award." Recognized by the Greater Savannah Sports Council for excelling in our sport this year.
- We congratulate our gymnast that had the opportunity to continue their gymnastics carrer in the following colleges: Yale, NC State & University of Kentucky.
- After placing a bid, The YMCA of Coastal GA, Inc. recieved the exciting news that we have been selected by the YMCA of the USA to host the 2013 YMCA National Gymnastics Championship & Festival.
