17 local High School Students recruited by the YMCA of Coastal Georgia receive $10,000 HSF Scholarship

Food Is Medicine Wellness Seminar

There are games for kids and helpful information for parents about what is a well balanced diet and how to achieve a healthy lifestyle by adopting better eating habits. YMCA of Coastal Georgia Encourages the Community to Play and Learn at Healthy Kids Day®, April 28

More than 1,900 Ys across the country are taking part in the celebration, meant to kick start physical activity and learning throughout the summer – a critical out-of-school time for kids.

Tuesday, March 27 is Diabetes Alert Day, and the YMCA of Coastal Georgia wants residents of Greater Savannah to learn their risk for type 2 diabetes and take action to prevent it.
YMCA of Coastal Ga. holds annual meeting

The meeting focused on recapping the recent work of the Y along with looking ahead to the future, the nomination of new volunteer leaders and a salute to retiring board members, exceptional volunteers, and staff.

Gross just made it through his second bout with cancer. This time, it claimed part of his right leg. But that hasn’t stopped him. With a custom fitted prosthesis, Gross is back in the West Chatham YMCA gym.

Cooler is also the Child Watch & Kid Fit Coordinator at the West Chatham YMCA in Pooler. She is 5 feet-8 inches tall and weighs 140 pounds now, but six years ago, it was a very different story. “I had always been a runner,” says Cooler. “But I had two children and went through a divorce,” she said. :I kind of let myself go.” Her weight had climbed to 240. She knew she had to do something, and she did. With a one-year-old and a three-year-old, it wasn’t easy, but Cooler made herself do it.

Every day, the YMCA of Coastal Georgia serves as a gathering place for the community. Kids pour in after school to play and do homework. Seniors meet for luncheons, group activities and to connect with one another. Teens gather for programs such as Teen Achievers and learn valuable career and college readiness skills. Adults come to a place where they have the time to focus on their personal wellness and health.
