Y Kids Run
Fleet Feet Sports is teaming up with the YMCA of Coastal Georgia to launch "Y Kids Run", a FREE program designed to encourage a healthy future for today's youth.
What is Y Kids Run? Fleet Feet Sports Savannah is excited to team up with the YMCA of Coastal Georgia to assist local YMCA's and schools in keeping kids moving all year long. Children (K-5th grade) will run/walk throughout the school year and log their mileage throughout the duration of the program.
How will Y Kids Run work? Children will keep a personal log to document their progress. To assist kids in reaching their goal, they will be able to log miles from any foot race, sports practice, PE class, after school activity, or fun activity at home with family and friends. Parents, teachers, or an additional adult supervisor will sign off on the logs to verify the child's participation. The logs will be collected and at the end of the program, the YMCA will announce the total mileage logged by all participants! All logs are printable via the YMCA website.
What is the duration of Y Kids Run? This program will kick off on Saturday, September 24th at Forsyth Park with the 22nd Annual YMCA Heart of Savannah 5K with the FREE kids run. Children will be able to log their miles throughout the rest of the year until mid-May. We will celebrate kids and their healthy habits as the program culminates with a day dedicated to the low country kids at the Y Kids Run Day on May 19th at Daffin Park.
How to register? Y Kids Run is a FREE program with multiple ways to register and participate! YMCA members/non-members can print off the registraion form and return it to any YMCA of Coastal Georgia location or to Fleet Feet Sports Savannah. Also, coming up, certain YMCA programs will offer an element of running/walking within them with registration oppurtunities. Finally, in the coming weeks, the YMCA will be working with locals schools to register children for the program.
We hope you will encourage children in your life to participate in Y Kids Run. It is important to develop healthy and active lifestyle habits in children at a young age so that they will be accustomed to these behaviors and maintain them in the future!
