Teen Cuisine

The Tybee Teen Cuisine combines together developing teenagers, community partners and volunteers, and the culinary arts to create great food, great fun and great friends at the YMCA.

The Teen Cuisine is a cooking workshop designed for youth ages 11 to 15.  At the Teen Cuisine we learn popper and safe food handling and preparation, recipe reading and direction following and how to make healthy food choices.  Wednesdays from 4:30 to 6pm.  Free and open to all teens on the island, membership not required.

Family Skate Night

Family Friendly Skate Night is hosted on the third Friday of each month from 6-9pm. Our gymnasium is transformed into a roller rink of fun.  Family friendly music and lost of fun are guaranteed!  Cost is $3.00 per skater including rentals.  We have roller blades and roller skates for all sizes youth and adults.  Children must be accompanied by an adult. Call for dates and details.

Learn the Guitar in 6 weeks! Session 2

Group guitar lessons will be offered starting October 8, 2011 and will run for 6 weeks at 11:30am.   Students will receive "hands-on" instruction in music theory, ear training, sight reading, ensemble playing, technique and rythme drills.  $20 for members $25 for non-members per lesson.  Please note you must have you must have your own guitar.

 

NEW! TYBTEENS Sports Club

Brand New to our Fall fitness schedule TYBTEENS Sports Club.  Each Wednesday the Club will meet and compete in small sided games!  Fitness, technique, conditioning and fun will all be thrown into one good time!

Schdule will remain the same each month thru March 2012.

First Week: Indoor Soccer

Second Week:  Indoor Volleyball

Third Week:  Indoor Roller Hockey

Fouth Week: Outdoor Running (rain or shine)

Fifth Week (when applies) ???? Club Choice

 

Youth Sports

The Tybee Island YMCA offers several seasonal sports programs for children ages 3 and up.  Sports include soccer, basketball, baseball, tee-ball and tennis.  Prices and times vary.

Summer Day Camp

Day camp is held within the Memorial Park Complex next to the Tybee Island YMCA at 204 5th Street. Camp hours are 9am-4pm, with pre-camp being held 7-9am and post camp being held 4-6pm. Campers will participate in special themed activities each week as well as traditional camp games, arts and crafts and go on special field trips to Summer Waves and Sand Gnats game.  Camp is for ages 5 to 12, and we  also have spots for  teens as junior counselors, better known as LITS (Leaders-in-Training).

Kayak Camp

This camp is hosted by guides from North Island Surf and Kayak. Each day, professional staff will guide campers on paddling and fishing trips around Tybee including Little Tybee Island, the Cockspur Lighthouse, and through the tidal channels surrounding the island.  The kayaks are top loading and suitable for all ages and skill levels. Camp runs M-F from 9am to 12pm.  Costs vary.

Surf Camp

Surf Camp teaches the basics to the advanced skills of surfing to participants at several locations around the island. Campers will learn about water safety, tides, balancing on a board, duck diving, paddling, wave riding and an introduction to stand up paddle boarding. Camp is open to all surf levels and campers are divided into age groups. All campers MUST be able to swim 25 yrds. And be comfortable with ocean tides, waves and undertow. Camp is offered 5 weeks during the summer and runs from 10am to 1pm.  Costs vary.  Private lessons are available contact us for details.

Swim Lessons

These 30 minute classes offer children their first experience in the pool without parental assistance.  The children are taught the basic skills of swimming, pool safety, boating safety, and the use of personal flotation devices.  Children are evaluated the first day of class to determine which group would best accommodate their needs.  These classes provide a 1-5 ratio of child to teacher and are held three weeks this summer, Monday thru Friday at the Rivers’ End Camp Ground.
