Swim Lessons

Swim Lessons

71% of the world is water, children are 100% curious. Drowning can happen nearly anywhere with standing water. But, as a parent or caregiver, you can’t keep your children sidelined. You need to equip them with the tools they need to be confident in and around water so they don’t lose out on the health benefits of exercise, the opportunities to bond with family and friends, and the sense of accomplishment when they learn new skills.

With our YMCA, we enrich children and adults how to properly and safely move in the water. We offer private, semi-private, and group lessons at various branches. As we are a part of the Coastal Empire, it is vital that everyone learn how to swim.

In Water Acclimation, Water Movement, and Water Stamina, students are taught the recommended skills for all to have around water including safe water habits, underwater exploration, and how to swim to safety and exit in the event of falling into a body of water. Activities, games, and drills, geared to reinforce learning, are utilized heavily as students progress in this skill-based approach to swimming.

Sessions are 8 classes and 2 weeks long

In Movement, students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water while also continuing to practice how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.

In Stamina, students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance that in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action.

In Stroke Intro, students will develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. Water safety is reinforced through treading water and elementary backstroke.

VIEW

Students will learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance than in previous stages in the event of falling into a body of water. This stage also introduces rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg action. Students should already be comfortable with putting their head underwater, be able to float on their front and back and be able to swim 15 yards their front and back unassisted. The lesson description is meant to assist parents/caregivers in placing their child in the correct class. After the first day class placement will be up to the instructor, depending on the child’s performance in class.

Your child will not be considered register in the class until payment is received. Sessions are 8 classes total. A session last two weeks, Monday-Thursday. Each class much have a minimum number of 3 registered swimmers to run the class. Friday and Saturday are weather make up days, only if the Golden Isles YMCA cancels a class.
